There are days that my children blow me away with their wisdom that is far beyond their years. Today was one of those days. Jayna and I were finishing our lunches together after the younger 3 had gone into quiet time. Here was our conversation.
Jayna- "mama, I really wanted to teach the boys something today, I wanted to teach them about sin."
Me- "oh yeah, ok, you can do that after quiet time"
J- "I was thinking about it all last night, do you want to hear it?"
Me- "sure, I'd love to hear it"
J- "well, sin is kind of like your ears. You can't stop your ears from hearing things, but you can CHOOSE (her emphasis here) to not pay attention to all the noises around you. And sin is the same, there can be lots of sin, but you don't have to sin."
Me- "wow, so what you're saying is that sin is like your ears because even though you can't stop noises around you, you can choose not to listen to them and even though sin is all around you, you can choose not to accept that sin and sin yourself?"
J- "yeah, that's right"
Amazing isn't it? How did this child of mine come up with a concept so deep for a 7 year old? After rough days with this VERY strong willed child which have recently left me on my knees in tears and prayers and brokenness over my failure to teach her in the way she should go, God has blessed me abundantly once again with the knowledge that He is in control, He will finish the good work He began in her if she is open to His almighty word. My job is to offer up my life in service to Him, to obey His word, to treat my children like the blessings they are and not the burdens the world would have me believe they are and He will bless me with my heart's desires. Amazing what can happen when you listen to your child for 5 minutes and you see the grace of God.
